One of the most captivating cities in Romagna known for its beauty and for having given birth to a concentration of intellectuals and artists, yesterday as today, like no other place in the province. Even a pope was born there: Pope Clement XIV, Ganganelli, as some monuments dedicated to him recall.
Here art, culture, history and traditions are at home, you can breathe it in its squares, in its suggestive corners and in the many events that mark the seasons, which have also become tourist attractions.
Its rigorously restructured historical center where special attention can be read to the defense of the signs of the past, thanks also to the numerous restaurants and taverns, is more alive than ever.
Despite being a city of over 20,000 inhabitants, it gives back a village atmosphere, where everything is fit for meeting, hospitality and everywhere you can feel its strong cultural identity.
Since 1971, one of the most important contemporary theater festivals in Italy has been held in July: the Santarcangelo dei Teatri - International Theater Festival in the Square.
On 11 November, San Martino, the famous and ancient fair, also called "dei becchi", takes place.
Lately the traditional "race of the beaks" has been included as a side event to the fair, in which only those who have "horns" or who want to exorcise them should participate.
Another event that takes place in the city center is "Balconi Fioriti": in mid-May, Piazza Ganganelli and the stairways are covered with flowering plants. Another particularly heartfelt celebration which has lost part of its charm is the Festa di San Michele on 29 September, also known as the Festa or Casa degli Uccelli (Chèsa di Gazòtt) as it was customary for the exhibition and the competition song of the decoy birds, now partially replaced by the performances of the Dog Unit of the Eagles of Rimini of the Civil Protection.
In Santarcangelo, since the 1990s, the most consistent and artistically active mute community in Europe has established itself.

Located in the heart of Romagna, on the appendages of the first hills of the Forlì Apennines, a few km from the Via Emilia, 15 km from Forlì and 13 km from Cesena, Bertinoro dominates a suggestive landscape whose view extends to the sea .
In addition to the hospitality and the splendid panoramic view that can be enjoyed from the central Piazza della Libertà, hence the nickname "Balcony of Romagna", the locality is a typical example of a medieval citadel full of walls, towers and old houses , also known as the "City of Wine". In fact, legend has it that Galla Placidia, daughter of the Emperor Theodosius, passing through these places, tasted a wine served in a humble goblet, and said: "You are not worthy of such a rough cup, o wine, but of drinking it in gold" , hence the name of the city.
From the top of Monte Cesubeo, the thousand-year-old fortress dominates the citadel, a building prior to the 10th century, where the emperor Federico Barbarossa stayed in 1177 with his court and his militia, then a bishopric since 1584. Even today the defensive structure maintains its medieval appearance is well preserved.
Inside are the offices and apartments of the ancient bishop's residence, a large terrace facing the village and the large seventeenth-century hall decorated with Baroque frescoes.
Today the Rocca also houses the University Residential Center of the Alma Mater Studiorum of Bologna and the Interreligious Museum. Recently established by the Diocese of Forlì-Bertinoro, the Museum offers the possibility of investigating the common aspects of the three monotheistic religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam. But the beautiful medieval village boasts another characteristic, that of being considered the 'City of hospitality' par excellence thanks to the tradition of the Column with the twelve rings, each corresponding to one of the twelve families once appointed to host the stranger who, upon arriving, tied up the horse.
Tradition still evoked today on the first Sunday of September.

Inserted in the evocative setting of the pine forest of Cervia, the Butterfly House is a unique emotion for all those who love to be surprised by the enchanting and always varied spectacle of nature.
Casa delle Farfalle & Co. is an original and innovative educational park. The main attraction is the air-conditioned greenhouse, of over 500 square meters, which hosts the colorful flight of hundreds of tropical butterflies with the most spectacular and colorful colors.
Every week, inside the greenhouse, hundreds of chrysalises, finding the ideal environmental conditions to complete their development, transform into colorful butterflies that fly free, eat and often finish their life cycle by laying their eggs, so that it is possible to observe all the different stages of metamorphosis (egg - larva - pupa - butterfly).
Several species of exotic plants and animals share the habitat of the greenhouse with the butterflies (chameleons, iguanas, praying mantises, exotic birds, carnivorous plants) contributing to together constitute a real ecosystem. Next to the greenhouse, there is also "The Casa degli Insetti”, a pavilion entirely dedicated to the world of insects: bees, locusts, beetles and other extravagant insects from all over the world, important inhabitants of land, water and air. The greenhouse is integrated by a multifunctional building, which houses an exhibition permanent education on the world of insects and invertebrates, a classroom and a vast thematic shop.

Cervia Natural Park with its 27 hectares of pine forest, established in 1963, was created with the aim of safeguarding a considerable part of the natural environment, while making it usable by tourists and visitors.
The Natural Park is a place where you can spend hours of absolute peace and quiet and discover forgotten scents and sounds, re-establishing that contact with nature that man has long lost. It is not a simple green park, but a real jewel in the heart of Milano Marittima which offers multiple possibilities: from getting to know many animals up close, especially those from the farm, to spending a peaceful picnic in the open air or sipping a coffee in the company of swallows.
There is a real botanical itinerary that indicates various native essences of the pine forest of Cervia. The most representative tree essence is the stone pine (Pinus pinea) with its "umbrella" crown which differs from the other pine present, the maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) whose crown is instead "pyramidal". Other trees present in good numbers are oaks, such as downy oak (Quercus pubescens) and sessile oak (Quercus petraea). The undergrowth is very rich in shrubs such as bramble (Rubus ulmifolius), hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), sea buckthorn (Hippophae ramnoides), privet, honeysuckle (lonicera caprifolium) and barberry (Berberis vulgaris). Small orchids "cheer up" the soil.
A rich selection of animals populate the park. In particular, the Natural Park has embraced the cause of the repopulation of native species, both regional and Italian. You can admire numerous varieties of: chickens, guinea fowl, turkeys, rabbits, goats, sheep, horses, cattle, donkeys, deer, fallow deer, many of which can be touched by hand inside the enclosure of the educational farm. The most common ornamental breeds are present: peacocks, pheasants, baby pigs, etc…
The Park also offers many other opportunities: from the organic garden to horseback riding, to a rich program of events that enliven the park from spring to autumn.
A refreshment point suitable for children:
Binario 9 ¾ is a one-of-a-kind refreshment point thanks to the particular wooden structure, the suggestive outline of the centuries-old pine forest and the services it offers to adults and children. It is a place to live, where you can enjoy the quiet of the park at any time of day, an 'educational' and somewhat magical refreshment point where the little ones can read, play and participate in educational workshops, which in part develop in the pine forest.
Services offered:
- refreshment area and relaxation area
- children's area with games
- bookshop
- educational activities
- snacks and lunches with typical and non-typical products
The Old Farm:
A fascinating close encounter with pets in a fenced area located across the canal. With the assistance of expert staff, children will be able to interact and look after the farm animals, in complete safety without disturbing the animals themselves.

The Cervia Salt Pans Visitor Center is the starting point for guided tours of the salt pans. Inside there is a path of knowledge that allows you to deepen the historical and economic issues related to the production of salt.
The southern gateway to the Po Delta Regional Park, the Cervia Salt Pan has been recognized by the Ramsar Convention as a Wetland of International Importance for its high naturalistic and landscape value.
The salt pans of Cervia cover an area of about 800 hectares at a distance of 1600 meters from the sea. Of ancient Etruscan origin, they are the deposit from which the "white gold" is still extracted both with the artisanal method, in the oldest Camillone salt pan, and with the industrial method, in the single collection salt pan.
Since 1979, the salt marshes have been a State Nature Reserve for animal populations.
Today the salt pans are home to numerous species of birds such as flamingos, black-winged stilts, avocets and numerous other protected species. To observe them, it is possible to book birdwatching walking tours and bicycle or canoe itineraries at the Visitor Center. More information:
